I am doing a live redesign of my site, so things may be a little dusty for a while, hang on in there...

BBC Passport

The BBC developed a competition for it’s readers to create a new BBC homepage. The brief was open, pretty much a blank sheet of paper.

I started thinking about the BBC and that it’s target audience is British people who are familiar with the BBC brand. I then took it once step further by targeting British people abroad. Be it ex-pats, travellers, businessmen or holiday makers, they all came under the umbrella of people who may appreciate a website that gives them information of where they are where they have come from.

The functionality layer is obviously only in visual format as it was never produced in html code, however the intentions are all there to see.

Interestingly since the competition closed (unfortunately I never won) the current homepage provides a similar functionality, where you can set your location and have information related to that location fed through to you.

Even though I didn’t win, I enjoyed the exercise and gave me the chance to be expressive without the constraints that can sometimes be placed on new designs.
